Your child’s heart rate (HR) sometimes speeds up. It seems too fast. The medical name for this is tachycardia. Most of the time, your child’s HR seems normal.

Hiccups are repeated gulping sounds caused by sudden spasms of the diaphragm. Burping is the sound made by the sudden release of stomach air through the mouth.

A hoarse voice (or cry) is raspy and deeper than normal. If hoarseness is severe, the child can do little more than whisper.

A painful or itchy rash caused by overgrowth of bacteria in hot tubs. Onset of rash: 8-48 hours after being in hot tub. Easy to diagnose based on a rash starting after being in a hot tub. Rash in others who shared the hot tub helps make the diagnosis.

Sting from a jellyfish. Jellyfish cause most of the stings that occur in sea water. The main symptoms are pain, burning and redness at the sting site. Red lines are common.

Cramps in the lower belly or pelvis. They start during the first 1 or 2 days of a girl’s period. Cramps only happen during menstrual bleeding. Report of cramps in the past are helpful. Cramps often don’t start until periods are present for over 1 year.
