Calculating Heart Disease Risk

What is your risk for heart disease?

The best way to determine this is by factoring in all our health choices, your current health status, your past health history, and your family history.  That can be complicated, but there are some tools to help you and many of them are available online.

Mobile Health Team's current favorite is the comprehensive heart risk calculator from the Mayo Clinic.  This calculator incorporates all your current health choices, health conditions, and family history into one risk score.  We also like that it gives a long-term outlook, the 30-year risk score.

However, if you are between 40 and 70 years old and looking at whether you should start statin medications, the calculator currently included in the national guidelines should be used:

Try the ASCVD Risk Calculator if you are 40 to 70 years old.
